In 1889, 13 years before the actual sinking of the Titanic, Morgan Robertson came out with this fictinal book: The Wreak of the Titan. The Titan and Titanic had more things in common other than their name. Both ships had three propellers and two masts. And each one had only enough lifeboats for half of their passengers. Robertson's book follows the hero as a deckhand on the Titan. Halfway through the book, the ship sinks after hitting an iceberg. The hero saves a little girl after fighting off a polar bear and surviving on the iceberg the ship sank. The only thing different is the number of survivors: Titanic - 750 while the Titan had 13.
This movie wasnt the first Titanic movie to be released, but it definatly won the gold. Staring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, Titanic was won the Best Film award and eleven other awards. DiCaprio and Winslet stared as two young people who fell in love where DiCaprio's character was a lowly third-class while Winslet was a first-class passenger. DiCaprio ends up in trouble with ship crew, so as the ship sinks, he's tied up and left to die. Winslet eventually finds him and together they get to the top. But it's women and children first, so Winslet stays with DiCaprio. In the end, DiCaprio dies of Hypothermia while Winslet is saved in a returning lifeboat. This film is fictinal.
In 2003 James Cameron directed a documentary on his exploration down to the titanic. In the film Cameron is invited aboard a ship after he finishes his Titanic film in 1997. He agrees and invites actor friend Bill Paxton. Together they go down two miles to the wreak of the Titanic in the Mir 1 and Mir 2. Their guides let loose two robots. The Robots, Jake and Elwood, went into the titanic. They returned to the surface and found out that September 11th happened. They almost called off the expedition, but soon they decided to continue. They finished their research and the film was released in 2003.
